To activate content retrieval, users simply select keywords, text strings, or tagged search criteria from any Windows or Web business application on the desktop and then simply drop the search criteria onto the IRISS. The IRISS then goes into action and offers a selection of user pre-defined searches to perform, or to create custom search parameters on-demand to easily and quickly satisfy casual access to business information and content. Developed with its own viewing interface, no other ECM desktop client is required to support pervasive casual access to basic content services across the entire business enterprise. 

While originally conceived for the casual user of basic content services, the IRISS so dramatically changes the ease of access, business application integration, and overall user experience that power ECM users enjoy the Iriss as a part of their overall experience as well. To that end, the IRISS can be configured to actually interact with both the Windows rich Clearview client as well as the thin Web client. The IRISS combines ease of desktop usage with the powerful and deeper ECM experience offered with access to full Clearview ECM functionality. 

To fully complete the casual basic content services requirement, the IRISS is also a mini-portal to drop content or documents in order to easily deposit them into the Clearview ECM repository. Virtually any content, document, or business object can be saved to the desktop and then dropped onto the IIRISS for storage activation. The intuitive gadget then prompts information workers to transfer their knowledge of the object to the Clearview system through guided steps for content categorization, keyword, or metadata tagging for proper handling and organization in the Clearview ECM system.
